Ranji Trophy 2022-23: Skipper Mayank Agarwal Leads Karnataka’s Reply After Kerala Post 342 in 1st Innings

Captain Mayank Agarwal led Karnataka with an unbeaten 87 in reply to Kerala’s 342 on the second day of their Ranji Trophy Elite Group C match here on Wednesday.

The home team started the game at 224 for six and added 118 more runs to the total with the help of veteran Jalaj Saxena’s crucial half-century (57).

Sachin Baby, who was batting on 113 at stumps on the first day, reached 141 before becoming leg-spinner Shreyas Gopal’s second wicket.

Although Baby and Saxena were dismissed before Kerala reached 300, skipper Sijoman Joseph (24) ensured the team made 342 with the help of No.11 Nidhish MD (22, 2×4, 1×6) .

Baby’s third century of the Ranji season and Saxena’s innings helped Kerala make a good recovery from six wickets for three.

Out of the India Tests, Agarwal recovered from the early loss of fellow opener R Samarth (0) to put on an 89-run partnership for the second wicket with Devdutt Padikkal (29) to lay a good foundation for the visitors.

Agarwal hit four fours and three sixes in his unbeaten 87 as Karnataka ended the day at 137 for two, still trailing Kerala by 205 runs.
