When asked about the upcoming Legislative Council elections for teacher and graduate constituencies in the state, Patole said the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) would win all (five) seats.

Maharashtra Congress chief Nana Patole on Wednesday alleged that the Shiv Sena’s Eknath Shinde faction and the BJP state government were wasting public money to promote Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Mumbai on Thursday.

Patole wondered whether issues like farmer suicides, unemployment, price rise etc would be mentioned in the Prime Minister’s address.

PM Modi will inaugurate and lay foundation stones for several projects worth over Rs 38,000 crore during his one-day visit.

“PM Modi had performed the ‘Jalpujan’ ceremony for Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj’s memorial in the Arabian Sea six years ago. But what happened after that? Modi should speak about the memorial tomorrow and also on unemployment, price rise and suicides by farmers. Last year, 3,000 farmers committed suicide, Patole told reporters.

He alleged that the state government was wasting public money in promoting the Prime Minister’s visit.

Patole said that people are facing the brunt of price rise but the central government is not ready to solve the issue.

He alleged that the BJP’s religion is only “power” and the saffron party is not concerned about ensuring communal harmony.

When asked about the upcoming Legislative Council elections for teacher and graduate constituencies in the state, Patole said the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) would win all (five) seats.

He alleged that the BJP instigated the Congress candidate for the Nashik Division graduate constituency to rebel as the saffron party could not find a candidate.

The Congress was left red-faced after the party’s official candidate and MLC Sudhir Tambe did not file nomination for the January 30 election and instead fielded his son Satyajit Tambe as an independent candidate.

Tambe Junior is up against BJP rebel Shubhangi Patil from Nashik constituency.

While the MVA has supported Patil, the BJP is yet to decide on supporting Satyajit Tambe.
