Ranbir Kapoor Looks Back at Shamshera’s Failure, Says ‘The Biggest Mistake I Made Was…’

This year has been eventful for Ranbir Kapoor. Not only did he deliver one of the most successful films of 2022, Brahmastra Part One: Shiva, but he also married the leading lady of the film. Bollywood Alia Bhatt And now he is also a father to a lovely daughter Raha. But with all the successful moves, the Wake Up Sid actor was also a part of the much-hyped period action film Shamshera, which didn’t fare well at the box office. The actor is currently attending the Red Sea International Film Festival in Jeddah, where he talked about the debacle of Shamshera.

During one last ‘In Conversation’ session, Ranbir termed Shamshera as the most difficult film of his career. He said, “It was a huge disaster at the box office, but the biggest mistake I made on Shamshera was that I stuck to the beard. When you are shooting in the heat, and you stick on a beard, it looks like your face is melting off.”

Earlier, the Tamasha actor had rubbished claims of boycotting tendencies contributing to the failure of Shamshera. In a press conference for Brahmastra, Ranbir had claimed that if a film doesn’t do well at the box office, it is probably because of the content and no other variable.

He had explained, “If the film didn’t do well at the box office, it was only because the audience didn’t like the film. Ultimately, it’s about the content. If you make a good film, entertain people, of course they will go to the theaters and watch your films. They want to feel different emotions, connect with the characters and be entertained. So, if a film does not work, it is not because of any other reason but because the content is not good. I think that’s the right answer.”

The story of Shamshera is set in the 1800s. It followed a dacoit tribe and their fight for freedom against British rule. Apart from Ranbir Kapoor and Vaani Kapoor, the film also featured veteran actors like Saurabh Shukla, Irawati Hershey and Craig McGinley along with Sanjay Dutt. Made on an extravagant budget of Rs 150 crore, the film could collect only Rs 65 crore globally.
