Pakistan men’s cricket team will participate in the tri-nation series in New Zealand before the start of T20 World Cup, Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Ramiz Raja confirmed this on Sunday.

He said the series would be excellent preparation for the conditions he would face in Australia during the T20 World Cup.

A tri-nation series featuring hosts New Zealand, Pakistan and Bangladesh was planned ahead of the T20 World Cup to be held in Australia in October this year. Speaking to the media, PCB Chairman Raja confirmed the Babar Azam-led team’s participation in the tournament in New Zealand.

“Before the 1992 World Cup, the team had reached Australia a month ago and we had ample opportunity to prepare for matches by playing against local teams,” Raja said.

“I was behind the PCB’s international department to find out somehow that our team could play six to seven matches before the World Cup. New Zealand’s pitches also have bounce and speed, playing matches there will benefit the team.

The tri-nation tournament is expected to start in the first week of October where teams will play each other twice before the final of the competition.

Notably, Pakistan will also host England for seven T20Is in September. The series is expected to start from September 15.
