Rajkummar Rao’s next film Srikanth is slated for a theatrical release on May 10.
Rajkummar Rao roots for Amar Singh Chamkila reveals watching it twice. He adds getting a shout-out from his peers on Srikanth trailer has given him confidence.
The trailer of Rajkummar Rao starrer Srikanth: Aa Raha Hai Sabki Aankhein Kholne met with a lot of praise from his peers from the film industry. Arjun Kapoor, Alia Bhatt and Janhvi Kapoor, among others, gave a shout out to it. In an exclusive chat with News18 Showsha, he reveals that their words of appreciation has given him ‘a lot of confidence’ and he admits that this kind of support from his contemporaries goes a long way in busting the myth that showbiz is largely insecure.
Recalling how the industry had united to shower love on Alia Bhatt for her film with Sanjay Leela Bhansali too, he says, “I also feel that it doesn’t happen every time. Whenever there’s something extraordinary that happens, only then people come together and celebrate. It happened when Alia did Gangubai Kathiawadi. Everybody unanimously said that she delivered a brilliant performance.”
For Rajkummar, it’s rare for everyone to join forces and gush about a film and he’s elated that it’s happening with Srikanth. “When something hits the right notes, everybody comes together. But otherwise, liking a film is very subjective. I might like something that another person didn’t and vice-versa. Once in a while, however, a film comes out that meets with unanimous love from everyone in the industry,” he states.
The grapevine has always been abuzz with how actors are often envious about each other and there’s a sense of underlying rivalry straining their equations. Rajkummar, however, has never shied away from lauding his peers. In fact, recently, he took to social media to talk about how Amar Singh Chamkila is ‘such a brilliant film’ and that Diljit Dosanjh’s act touched his soul.
Speaking about how he has already watched the Imtiaz Ali directorial twice, he remarks, “I never feel envy. I get inspired. I recently watched Amar Singh Chamkila. I haven’t reached out to him yet but I think Diljit was bang on in the film. I think no one could have it better. Those subtle nuances were incredible. And him being from Punjab definitely helped too. I think he was Chamkila for me. It was one of those performances that made me watch the film again. If I like something, I make sure that I watch it two-three times.”
As for Srikanth, the trailer has won him raving reviews for perfectly embodying Srikanth Bolla. Shedding light on his prep for the part, Rajkummar tells us, “I had no idea or clue as to how I want to approach this part. But after spending so much time with visually-impaired people and Srikanth himself, I got to learn about a lot of mannerisms I should incorporate to portray the part onscreen.”
He adds, “I didn’t want to take the obvious route of portraying a visually-impaired man. I wanted to do it differently so that it looks real. I wanted people to watch the film and say that this is exactly how a visually-impaired person behaves and that’s how his eye movement is. That came with a lot of practice and observation.”
