November 4th not only marks the celebration of Diwali but also the release of the superstar Rajinikanth Starring ‘Annathe.’ Directed by Siruthai Siva and produced under the Sun Pictures banner, the film’s release was delayed because of the COVID-19 pandemic. On Thursday morning, ardent fans of Rajinikanth gathered outside cinema halls to watch ‘Pehla Din Pehla Show’. Not only this, the next level of excitement was shown after the sale of ‘Annathe Dosa’ in the hope of promoting the film. Apart from Rajinikanth, the film’s cast includes names of artists like Khushboo, Meena, Prakash Raj, Satish and Suri.

Several people were seen standing in line outside PVR, Sion in the early hours. The eagerness to watch the film was visible among those who spoke to ANI. Local resident Ramya said that those who reached before the scheduled time were also among the people standing in the queue. “We are here for the 6 am show. Be it Diwali or not, Thalaiva’s film is nothing less than a festival. It is a Diwali feast for us,” he said.

Another ardent fan, Ganesh said that he is an ardent follower of Rajinikanth. “It released on Diwali and there is no greater joy for us than this. It is a big treat for us. Even amid COVID-19, people are here for the 6 am show. Me Happy. After a long time, the film is releasing. It is a gift for us. Without his film, a festival is incomplete,” he said.

Karnan, the owner of an eatery in Tamil Nadu’s Trichy, is selling dosa for one rupee as a symbol of prayer for the film. “I wish and pray that people come in large numbers and the film becomes a big hit,” he said.

Rajinikanth has recently received the prestigious Dadasaheb Phalke Award for his contribution to cinema. A few days after receiving the award, he had to undergo a medical procedure of carotid artery revascularization.

The ‘2.0’ star made his debut in 1975 with K Balachander’s ‘Apoorva Raagangal’ and has completed over 45 years in the Tamil film industry. The 70-year-old star has acted in South Indian and Bollywood films and has a huge fan following. He has given hits like ‘Billu’, ‘Muthu’, ‘Baasha’, ‘Shivaji’ and ‘Enthiran’. Rajinikanth was last seen in AR Murugadoss’s film ‘Darbar’.
