Railway offers 10-month-old compassionate appointment after parent’s accidental death

Officials said that perhaps for the first time in the history of the state, such an offer has been made to a child of this age on compassionate grounds.

Railway has given compassionate appointment to a 10-month-old girl who lost her parents in an accident in Chhattisgarh. She said that she can work for the national transporter after attaining the age of 18 years. “On July 4, a 10-month-old girl child was registered for compassionate appointment in the Personnel Department of South East Central Railway (SECR), Raipur Railway Division. The child’s father Rajendra Kumar was working as an assistant in a railway yard in Bhilai. He died along with his wife in a road accident on June 1, a SECR statement said. However, the child survived.

All possible help was provided to Kumar’s family by Raipur Railway Division as per rules. Officials said they took the child’s fingerprints to make it official registration in the railway records.

Along with her relatives, the girl cried when her thumb impression was taken, an official said. It was a heart wrenching moment. He said that it was difficult even for us to take the thumb impression of such a small child.
