Happy Birthday Rahul Dravid: ‘The Wall’ was appointed as the head coach of the Indian cricket team in November 2021. Needless to say, Dravid’s tenure as India coach was no less sensational.

Happy birthday Rahul Dravid: One of the finest batsmen to have ever played the game of cricket, Rahul Dravid displayed class and impeccable timing when facing opposition bowlers. If there was a definition of spontaneous batting, Dravid’s batting would be the most apt example of it.

Dravid, popularly known as The Wall for his solid defensive batting approach, had the art of tackling the deadliest bowlers almost anywhere in the world with ease. The Bengaluru-born cricketer had announced his retirement in 2012.

But Dravid never stopped mesmerizing the innumerable fans and followers of Indian cricket. After his retirement, Dravid focused on coaching. Dravid was appointed as the head coach of the Indian cricket team in November 2021. Needless to say, Dravid’s tenure as India coach was no less sensational.

As the former Indian skipper celebrates his 50th birthday today, it is time to take a look back at his tenure as India coach:

In his first appointment for the Men in Blue, Dravid faced a formidable New Zealand side. And Rahul Dravid couldn’t have asked for a better start to his tenure as India’s head coach. Under Dravid’s coaching, India defeated the Kiwis in both the Test and T20I series.

Rahul Dravid’s men started their tour of South Africa on a bright note by winning the first Test. However, India failed to carry forward the winning momentum.

The team bounced back immediately after a better performance against the West Indies in limited overs cricket. Team India ended their tour of the West Indies unbeaten, winning all six matches against their Caribbean opponents.

India’s poor run continued in the fifth Test against England but the visitors produced a fine performance in limited-overs cricket. India managed to win both the ODI and T20I series against him.

After the completion of the series against England, Rahul Dravid’s team was up against the West Indies. And there was no change in the result. India beat West Indies 3–0 in ODIs and 4–1 in T20Is.

Rahul Dravid managed to maintain his impressive winning streak against Australia, South Africa and Bangladesh. Under his coaching, India was also successful in reaching the semi-finals of the T20 World Cup. However, India crashed out of the T20 World Cup after being knocked out by England. India’s performance in the Asia Cup was also poor after being eliminated from the Super Four.
