‘Questioned Smriti Irani as a responsible citizen’: Congress leader who ‘imposed’ minister on fuel price hike

Union Minister Smriti Irani and Mahila Congress National President Netta D’Souza on Sunday exchanged war of words on rising fuel prices on a flight to Guwahati, with the latter saying she questioned the minister as a responsible citizen. .

The Mahila Congress president told CNN-News18, that she contacted Smriti Irani inside the IndiGo flight and asked her some questions outside as well, “Which platform should I question her?” he said. “I questioned him as a responsible citizen and I don’t see any mistake in that.”

D’Souza said that Irani had protested in 2014 when the price of LPG cylinder was increased from Rs 415 to Rs 435. “Now in seven years when the prices have gone up to Rs 1,000. I questioned him about it,” she said.

In a video posted on Twitter, she asks Irani, “Bihu without stove, without gas, Happy Bihu with increased rates.” The minister is heard saying “Please don’t lie” while speaking about social welfare schemes and the COVID-19 vaccines given to people.

D’Souza said, “The price increase related to the Kovid-19 vaccination is amusing.”

Petrol and diesel prices have touched new highs across the country. Petrol in Delhi touched an all-time high of Rs 105.41 per liter, while the price of diesel rose to Rs 96.67 per litre. Petrol in Mumbai now costs Rs 120.51 per liter and diesel Rs 104.77 per litre.
