Punjab polls: Kejriwal woos SC community, promises free education, coaching for their children

In a bid to woo the Scheduled Caste community ahead of the Punjab Assembly polls, AAP national convener Arvind Kejriwal on Tuesday promised to provide free education to his children and also bear their coaching fees for higher education if the party comes to power. Will do

Addressing a gathering of members of the community in Hoshiarpur district, Kejriwal attacked Charanjit Singh Channi, the first Dalit Chief Minister of Punjab, accusing him of doing “vote bank politics” and claimed that he would Was asking for votes only because he belonged to the same community.

The Dalit population in Punjab is about 32 percent. Kejriwal, who has extended his visits to the poll-bound state in recent weeks, asked the gathering to vote for the Aam Aadmi Party at once, saying he has given several chances to rival political parties, the Congress and the Shiromani Akali Dal.

He said that his party stands shoulder to shoulder with the SC community. The Delhi Chief Minister told the people that he has brought five “guarantees” for the SC community.

Giving details, he said if AAP comes to power after the state assembly elections next year, it will be the party’s responsibility to provide free good education to the children of the community.

“If a child from the Scheduled Caste community wants coaching like engineering, medical education, railways, IAS or any other examination, then the Punjab government will bear the entire fee,” Kejriwal said.

He said that if a child wants to go abroad for graduation and post graduation, the state government will bear the cost, adding that if any member of the community is suffering from any disease, his medical expenses will also be borne by him. , The AAP leader said every woman above the age of 18 would get Rs 1,000 per month.

Taking a jibe at the Punjab Chief Minister, Kejriwal said Channi belonged to the Ravidassia sect and hence he was asking the SC community to vote for him. Kejriwal said though he did not come from the community “but I come from your family”. “If someone in your family gets sick, I will become your son and get you treated. If tomorrow your child wants to become an IAS officer, you and I will help him to become an IAS officer. If your child wants good education, So your elder brother will help you, Channi sahib will not help,” the Delhi Chief Minister said.

Kejriwal claimed, “He (Chani) is only doing vote bank politics. He says, ‘I belong to the SC community and you are also from the same community, so vote for me’.” The AAP leader told the people that he is part of their family and he wants to build the future of Punjab.

Attacking the Channi-led government over school education, he said that the Chief Minister and Education Minister Pargat Singh claimed that the state has the best schools in the country. “I have a lot of respect for Pargat Singh, he was the captain of the Indian hockey team. I respect Channi sahab but both of them said that there is no need to improve the condition of schools as schools in Punjab are number one in the country ” Kejriwal said and asked people whether they think educational institutions in the state are the best in India.

“It means they (Congress government) have no intention of improving the condition of schools. They will keep them as they are,” he alleged. , He alleged that the intention of the state government was bad and said, “It is the intention of Channi and Pargat Singh to keep SC children backward, poor and illiterate.”

He claimed that the community was being cheated again. Attacking the Congress government, he claimed that Channi had promised to give five marla plots to the people after becoming the chief minister and lakhs of people had applied for him but till now not a single plot has been given.

He also pulled up the Punjab Chief Minister for his promise to regularize contractual employees and alleged that not a single person has been given permanent jobs out of 36,000 contractual employees. He lashed out at rival political parties for allegedly using the Scheduled Caste community and deliberately keeping them backward and poor since the country’s independence.

Kejriwal alleged that the condition of children from poor families and the SC community in government schools had deteriorated in 75 years and the parties deliberately kept these institutions in a bad condition so that the community could not progress.
