Punjab: Drug case registered against Bikram Majithia, AAP says fixed match between Congress and SAD

Chandigarh: Former Punjab minister and senior Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leader Bikram Singh Majithia was booked by the Punjab Police in a drug racket case, raising the political temperature in Punjab ahead of the crucial 2022 Punjab Assembly elections.

According to reports, an FIR under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act was registered in Mohali on Monday against Majithia for his alleged involvement in the Banur drug smuggling case. SAD leaders have been acquitted in this case earlier.

Though no official statement was made by the Punjab Police, Congress leader Navjot Singh Sidhu announced the development on Twitter earlier in the day.

After 5.5 years of fight against the corrupt system run by Badal family and Capt and 4 years delay without acting on ED and STF report against Majithia. Finally now, the first step has been taken by pushing credible officials into positions of power and influence!” He tweeted.

Akali Dal alleges political vendetta

Reacting to the move, the SAD termed it as political vendetta. Talking to reporters, SAD patron Parkash Singh Badal said, we already knew this. “The Congress government changed three state police chiefs to try and arrest Badal and Majithia,” he said.

Majithia is the brother-in-law of Sukhbir Singh Badal.

“Take me wherever you want, I am ready. Whichever government indulges in this vendetta will have to face the consequences,” Badal said. He said the government’s job is to serve the people, not indulge in political vendetta.

AAP calls it a fixed match between Congress and SAD

Meanwhile, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has termed this development as a fixed match between Congress and SAD. Talking to reporters, AAP leader Raghav Chadha said, “We had earlier said that the Punjab government would register an FIR against Bikram Singh Majithia and put him in jail. It is a fixed match between Congress and Shiromani Akali Dal. This Channi government The choice is a stunt.”

Majehatia was booked for allowing drug smuggling through the use of his property or vehicle, financing the distribution or sale of drugs, and criminal conspiracy to smuggle.
