The victim, Sukhjit, lived in Sainpur area and went missing on June 19, following which his wife Jeevandeep Kaur filed a missing complaint. Police initially suspected suicide when they found his motorcycle and slippers near a canal in Patiala.

It is learned that Gurpreet had befriended Sukhjeet with the intention of killing him and had spiked his drink to make him unconscious on the day of the murder. The victim’s clothes were changed and she was crushed under the truck so that her body could not be identified. Police said that even then the dead body was identified by his wife.

Sukhjeet’s wife Jeevandeep told the police that Gurpreet had been buying liquor for her for the last few days. Police said that his family had also lodged a complaint on Gurpreet’s ‘road accident’.
