Pune City Police Launches Search Operation Before Ganpati Immersion – World Latest News Headlines

Ahead of Ganesh Visarjan on Sunday, the Pune City Police conducted a massive ‘search operation’ and checked several sensitive and strategic locations between 9 pm on Friday and 2 am on Saturday.

A press release issued by Police Commissioner Amitabh Gupta said that the police teams checked 1,668 people with criminal records, 525 hotels and lodges in the city. Railway stations, bus stands and sensitive places were also thoroughly checked.

During the search operation, 15 people were arrested for illegally possessing sharp weapons. Crime Branch officials also arrested three men, who were allegedly preparing for an armed robbery.

Traffic control branch officials took action against 227 auto rickshaw drivers who violated the law while preventive action was taken against 146 history-sheeters.

The police teams also managed to arrest one Mehraj Shaikh, who was wanted in a case under the Maharashtra Control of Organized Crime Act registered at Farsakhana police station.

During the search operation, action was also taken against illegal liquor shops, illegal sale of cigarettes and tobacco products.

Meanwhile, police personnel have been deployed at important places for Ganesh Visarjan. Police appeals citizens to avoid crowds and follow COVID-19 Strictly standard.
