While 5,581 were given the joining letter, 1,835 were put on the waiting list.
Navdeep Singh, one of the protesters, said, “With the change of government in 2017 our recruitment got delayed. During the rule of the previous government, we were shortlisted for the post.
However, 1,835 were kept on the waiting list. Later in 2017, over 300 recruited constables were fired because their recruitment was done on the basis of fake SC/BC certificate. We are demanding that job letters be given to all the shortlisted candidates who have been placed in the waiting list since 2016.
The government has failed to pay any heed to our demands, so more than 30 protesters climbed the water tank on Pasi Road. Patiala for an indefinite period.”
