Producer Rajan gave this controversial statement on Ajith’s Valimai

Producer K. Rajan has said that distributors of Ajith-starrer Valimai have lost 10 per cent in Chennai and Chengalpattu and 20 per cent in areas beyond Chengalpattu. Rajan said that being on the distributor committee, he has heard this from the concerned distributors.

He further said that Valimai made profit for some theater owners but overall Valimai’s distributors lost 10 per cent to 20 per cent.

Valimai’s box office figures are already disputed and such a statement by a senior producer is expected to spark further controversy over the film’s collections.

Ajith’s Valimai was directed by H. Vinoth. Boney Kapoor bankrolled the film under Bayview Projects LLP in association with Zee Studios. Valimai was released worldwide on 24 February.

To coincide with the festival of Diwali, Valimai was initially slated to release in November 2020. However, the shooting of the film was suspended due to the pandemic, resulting in a delay in its release.

Valimai also stars Kartikeya, Huma Qureshi and Gurbani Judge in pivotal roles.

Valimai was one of the most awaited films of the year and its impact was felt even before the film’s release. The hashtag #ValimaiUpdate is becoming a trending topic on Twitter.

According to a year-end survey report released by Twitter in December 2021, Valimai became the second most tweeted film in India.

In an interview with Pinkvilla, Boney Kapoor had expressed his plans for a sequel and more future installments so that the film can be developed as a franchise.

Valimai’s plot revolves around Arjun (played by Ajith), a police officer who is tasked to track down a group of outlaw bikers after they are involved in several crimes.

The film marked the second collaboration between Ajith, Vinoth and Kapoor after Nerkonda Paarvai, which released in 2019.
