Priyanka Chopra replaces Deepika Padukone as chairperson of MAMI Film Festival; watch video

global icon Priyanka Chopra Jonas joined as the president of the Mumbai Academy of Moving Image (MAMI) film festival announced on Tuesday. The post was previously held by Deepika Padukone. He was nominated unanimously by the Board of Trustees of MAMI including Nita M. Ambani (Co-Chair), Anupama Chopra (Festival Director). The board also welcomed two new members, acclaimed filmmaker Anjali Menon and noted filmmaker and archivist Shivendra Singh Dungarpur.

Speaking on the occasion, Priyanka said: “I am very proud to play the role of Chairperson of Jio MAMI Mumbai Film Festival. I am really looking forward to working with these powerhouse ladies, Isha Ambani, Anupama Chopra, Smriti. Kiran and the rest of the team to take the celebration to the next level.

“I have hit the road with ideas, thoughts and plans to re-imagine the festival to find my rightful place in a world that has changed so much in such a short time. We are all consuming film and entertainment in very different ways. Now and in the process, we have expanded the footprint of the cinema that we watch.

“I have always been a huge supporter and believer of films from across India and we hope to create a strong platform to showcase Indian cinema to the world.”

Adapting to a new paradigm, Jio MAMI 2.0 will have an extended time period.

Instead of a weeklong film festival, Jio MAMI is now scheduled to run from October 2021 to March 2022. In addition to Dial M for Films, it will conduct select digital screenings from October to January as part of the year round programme. and masterclasses featuring talent from around the world.

The hybrid version of the festival will take place in March depending on how the COVID-19 situation unfolds in India. The possible dates for the festival are from March 11 to March 15, 2022.
