In a recent interview, Priyanka Chopra Details on his 2004 hit film Aitraaz. When asked if it was difficult for him to get into or out of character, he revealed that there was only one instance where he had trouble leaving his character behind. Apparently, after playing Sonia Kapoor in the film, Priyanka started behaving like her in real life too! His mother, Madhu Chopra, was not having it and scolded him for his sudden change in behaviour.
In the romantic-thriller Aitraaz directed by Abbas-Mustan and produced by Subhash Ghai, Priyanka shared screen space with Akshay Kumar and Kareena Kapoor. The film revolves around a man who is falsely accused of sexual harassment by his ex-girlfriend turned boss. Priyanka won praise for her role as the glamorous antagonist in the film. A fun fact is that last year, producer Sunil Darshan, who worked with Priyanka in one of her early films, Andaaz, revealed that she cried when Priyanka was offered the role of the antagonist in the film. In an interview with Film Companion, Priyanka said, “To get into it. I’m not very organized like that. It happened to me only once, when my mother said, ‘If you come to my house. Wali ho to isse bahar niklo”. When asked which character it was, Priyanka said, “Aitraj… Sonia (her character) didn’t misbehave. But I would come in slowly, I would talk deliberately. I do… I pick up my coffee like this, and slowly look at you.”
During the interview, Priyanka shared that her mother took it to the next level by shooting a video of her to prove how much she was acting like her objectionable character, Sonia Kapoor. “My mother was like, ‘Hello, koi camera nahi hai yahaan pe (There is no camera here),” said the global icon. Come back home’.”
This was the only time Priyanka experienced this and looking back she found it quite funny. She revealed that back in the day, working with big stars like Kareena and Akshay was a huge step for her and she was determined to find out.
