J&K Poonch Attack: Massive Search Op Underway to Nab Terrorists, Wreath Laying in Rajouri Today

The army said the vehicle in which the soldiers were traveling came under fire from unidentified terrorists and caught fire due to the possible use of a grenade.

After five Indian Army soldiers were killed in a terrorist attack in Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday, security forces have launched a massive manhunt to nab the terrorists involved in the attack. According to reports, it is becoming increasingly difficult to execute the manhunt in the dense forests. The wreath-laying ceremony of army personnel will be held in Rajouri at around 10 am on Friday.

Apart from attempting to nab the terrorists, the large-scale operation would also try to find workers on the ground who could provide supplies and help the terrorists with information about the topography of the place.

An army jawan was seriously injured and is undergoing treatment. The entire area has been cordoned off and drones and sniffer dogs are being used to trace the terrorists hiding in the area. PTI said the report.

The soldiers who were affected during the attack were from a unit of Rashtriya Rifles deployed for anti-terrorist operations. BDS and FSL teams are at the spot where the terror attack took place. According to officials, a team of NIA will visit the site of the terror attack for inspection.

Officials said a high alert has been sounded in the twin border districts of Rajouri and Poonch amid tight vigil along the Line of Control. He said that following the incident, traffic on Bhimber Gali-Poonch road was stopped and people were advised to go to Poonch via Mendhar.

Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha said that he was saddened by the martyrdom of the brave soldiers. “His rich service to the nation will never be forgotten. My thoughts are with the bereaved families,” he said in a tweet.

Political parties have condemned the attack. On Thursday evening, Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) and Bajrang Dal staged a sit-in at Tawi bridge in Jammu city and raised anti-Pakistan slogans.
