Prime Minister Narendra MoPresident Draupadi Murmu and I congratulated citizens on the State Formation Day of India on Monday; Maharashtra and Gujarat. Taking to Twitter, PM Modi said that Maharashtra is “blessed with a great culture and hardworking people” who have enriched the national progress in various fields.

He tweeted, “Happy Maharashtra Day. The state is blessed with a great culture and hardworking people who have enriched the national progress in various fields. I pray for Maharashtra’s continued progress in the years to come.”

He said in another tweet, “Congratulations on Gujarat Foundation Day. Gujarat has left its mark due to its all-round progress as well as its unique culture. I pray that this state continues to touch new heights of development in the times to come.

President Draupadi Murmu also congratulated the citizens, especially the residents of Gujarat and Maharashtra, on the foundation day of the two states.

In another tweet, he greeted people on Maharashtra’s Foundation Day. Why is Maharashtra Day and Gujarat Foundation Day celebrated?

Gujarat and Maharashtra were formed on this day in 1960 after bifurcation of the erstwhile Bombay State on linguistic basis.
