Tribal leader Draupadi Murmu is the BJP-NDA’s choice for the post of President.

Presidential Election 2022: Tribal leader and former Jharkhand Governor Draupadi Murmu (64) has been named as the BJP-led NDA’s choice for the next President of India.

BJP chief JP Nadda made this announcement after PM Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah and other leaders attended the party’s parliamentary meeting in Delhi.

Murmu, the former governor of Jharkhand, will be the first tribal woman to hold the top constitutional post if elected, a strong possibility as the numbers are in favor of the BJP-led NDA.

She will also be the first President of India to come from the state of Odisha and the second woman if elected.

Announcing NDA’s candidate for the next President of India, JP Nadda said that the BJP Parliamentary Board discussed 20 names for the presidential candidate, decided to choose someone from eastern India, a tribal and a woman Gone.

Nadda said the BJP was trying to build a consensus among all the parties.

“After the announcement of its candidate by the opposition parties, the BJP, after talking to all NDA allies, decided to field Murmu as its presidential candidate. 20 names were discussed in detail and one common Consensus was reached that someone is from the east and from the tribal community. The President of India should be made. After discussion, the parliamentary board decided to nominate Draupadi Murmu as the presidential candidate,” Nadda said.

The last date for filing nominations for the presidential election is June 29, while voting will be held on July 18. The counting of votes will take place on July 21.
