Aishwarya Rai Bachchan is all set to return to the silver screen with Mani Ratnam’s Ponniyin Selvan 1. The magnum opus has an ensemble cast including Vikram, Jayam Ravi, Karthi, Trisha, Aishwarya Lakshmi, Sarath Kumar, Vikram Prabhu, Sobhita Dhulipala, among others. Jayaram, Prabhu, Parthiban, and Prakash Raj are based on Kalki’s Tamil novel of the same name, which was serialized in the 1950s and has remained a sensational success since then. While fans are extremely excited about the film, the makers of PS1 have added to their excitement with an interesting glimpse of the film. PS-1 is slated for a worldwide release on September 30, 2022 in Tamil, Hindi, Telugu, Kannada and Malayalam.

Earlier, Aishwarya, who has worked with Mani Ratnam for several films including Iruvar, Raavan and Guru, opened up about working with him again. While talking to Film Companion, the actress spoke about working with the director and said that she is privileged and blessed that Ratnam asked her to be a part of his dream project.
She said, “When he came over and he shared and he said, ‘You know this is something I wanted to do right in the beginning’. I feel so privileged and so blessed that he gave me his Asked to be a part of the dream. I think just starting with that is very satisfying in itself. And then of course the experience has been great as ever and you work with a talent like him and the talent that he has. He naturally brings it together every now and then”.
“Initially, it was an absolute blessing to have that student in me who was right in cinema and to work with Mani Ratnam, I could not have asked for a better opportunity for someone who was just starting out in film. After that , I am blessed to have had the opportunity to work with a director and talent like Mani Ratnam with so many more projects and memorable films and great learning experiences for me as a growing artist. And I keep on saying grow because You go on now, even with every experience yesterday. So, I am blessed that I got to work with Mani several times,” shared the actress.
An adventure ride set in the 10th century, Ponniyin Selvan tracks factional power struggles within the Chola Empire, with the kingdom’s enemies acting as catalysts. The story is set in a pre-turbulent period before Ponniyin Selvan (son of the river Kaveri), later known as Rajaraja Chola, became one of the greatest emperors to begin a golden age in Indian history.
AR Rahman has composed the music of the film. With Ravi Varman handling the cinematography and Thota Tharani as production designer and Sreekar Prasad as editor, the film is packed with stellar technicians working with veteran director Mani Ratnam.
