The shooting of Mani Ratnam’s dream project Ponniyin Selvan is in full swing. Now, in a tweet, actor Karthi has for the first time confirmed that he is playing the role of Vandhiyathevan in the period drama. A day ago, his co-star Jayam Ravi shared on Twitter that he has wrapped his parts for the film. The team of the upcoming film was shooting in Puducherry, after which they moved to Gwalior for the next schedule. Now, Karthi reveals that the ongoing shooting schedule is expected to end soon after which the team will head south. Ravi will play Raja Raja Chola I Arulmo and Karthi will play Vandiyathevan, a trusted aide and friend of Aditya Karikalan (played by Chiyaan Vikram).
“They say that leadership and learning are indispensable to each other,” wrote Ravi. He also praised Karthi, and described working with him as “an experience of a lifetime”.
To this Karthi replied, “Prince Jayam Ravi, you cannot say goodbye so soon! You have a lot to do for the Chola dynasty. In six days, we will finish the work in the north and return to the south – Vandhiyathevan.” “

The historical drama based on the novel by Kalki Krishnamurthy has a huge star cast. The talented ensemble cast includes Vikram, Aishwarya Rai, Karthi, Shobhita Dhulipala, Vikram Prabhu, Jayaram, Prabhu and Ashwin Kakumama. Aishwarya is likely to portray Nandini and her mute mother, Rani Mandakini Devi. Recently, a picture of Aishwarya dressed in full outfit on the sets of the film was leaked online. Mohan Babu will replace Periya Pajuvettarayar.
Ponniyin Selvan narrates the lives of the kings and queens of the Chola dynasty. The film is likely to release in cinemas in 2022. The music is given by AR Rahman, while the dialogues are penned by Jayamohan. The cinematography is handled by Ravivarman and Brinda is the choreographer.
