Ponniyin Selvan 2 is one of the most eagerly anticipated sequels of the year. It eats a star-studded, brilliant shot of Mani Ratnam’s Cholas. The film is all set to hit the silver screens on 28th April and will be available to watch in Tamil, Telugu, Hindi, Malayalam and Kannada. Ponniyin Selvan 1 was released on September 30, 2022 and received an overwhelming response from the audience. The film went on to become the highest-grossing film in Tamil cinema.
PS2, which is star-studded with a stellar crew and assembled on a huge budget, needs around Rs 335 crore to reach the break-even point. If the film gets good response and good word of mouth, then it can earn Rs 100 crore in its first weekend itself. However, there has been a lack of buzz about the film, due to which, the makers have decided to release it in their own productions in most of the major territories, instead of relying on traditional distributors.
Estimated business for the film is Rs 170 crore worldwide, with most of the revenue expected to come from Tamil Nadu, where it is valued at Rs 80 crore. However, with the current low buzz, the film needs to garner a strong response to reach its break-even target.
The film has a star cast of Chiyaan Vikram, Jayam Ravi, Karthi. Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Trisha, Sobhita Dhulipala, Aishwarya Lakshmi, Nassar, Parthiban, Prabhu, Vikram Prabhu, Jayaram, Prakashraj, Lal, R. Sarathkumar, Jayachitra, Rahman and Balaji Sakthivel are in lead roles.
The music and background score in Ponniyin Selvan 2 is composed by music maestro AR Rahman. The film would mark another collaboration between Mani Ratnam and him. National Award winners have been roped in to work in key departments of the film. Sreekar Prasad served as the film’s editor, Ravi Varman worked on camera and Thota Tharani served as head of production design. The film is produced by Subaskaran Aliraja and Mani Ratnam under the banner of Lyca Productions and Madras Talkies.
