A police officer was injured in a clash between two groups of students of a college in Kolkata on Saturday.

A police officer was injured in a clash between two groups of students of a college in Kolkata on Saturday. He said additional in-charge of Bhawanipur police station, Rajiv Sahu, suffered head injuries when he tried to stop a fight between two groups of students of Ashutosh College just outside the police station.

The incident took place around 7 pm when both the factions of the youth wing of the ruling Trinamool Congress gathered in front of the police station after a difference of opinion, the official said.

“Soon, they got into a fight and our officers were injured when they tried to intervene. We have detained some students and are looking into the matter,” he said. The condition of the police officer admitted to Government SSKM Hospital is said to be stable.
