Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Dehradun on December 4 to inaugurate and lay foundation stones of several projects worth around Rs 18,000 crore.

According to the official note released by the Prime Minister’s Office, PM Modi will lay the foundation stone for eleven development projects. This includes the Delhi-Dehradun Economic Corridor (Eastern Peripheral Expressway Junction to Dehradun), which will be built at a cost of about Rs 8,300 crore. This will reduce the travel time from Delhi to Dehradun from six hours to around 2.5 hours. It will have seven major interchanges for connectivity to Haridwar, Muzaffarnagar, Shamli, Yamunanagar, Baghpat, Meerut and Baraut. It will have Asia’s largest wildlife elevated corridor (12 km) for unrestricted wildlife movement.

“The Greenfield Alignment Project from Delhi-Dehradun Economic Corridor, Halgoa, the project connecting Saharanpur to Bhadrabad, Haridwar will be constructed at a cost of over Rs 2000 crore. It will provide seamless connectivity and also reduce travel time from Delhi to Haridwar. Haridwar: The Ring Road project from Manoharpur to Kangri, to be built at a cost of over Rs 1600 crore, will relieve the residents from traffic congestion in Haridwar city, especially during the peak tourist season, and also improve connectivity with the Kumaon region. The Dehradun-Paonta Sahib (Himachal Pradesh) road project, to be built at a cost of about Rs 1,700 crore, will reduce travel time and provide seamless connectivity between the two places. This will also give a boost to inter-state tourism. The Prime Minister’s Office said that the Nazimabad-Kotdwar road widening project will reduce travel time and improve connectivity with Lansdowne.

It further states that a bridge will also be built over the river Ganga beside the Lakshm Jhula. The world famous Lakshman Jhula was constructed in 1929 but has now been discontinued due to low load carrying capacity. The bridge to be built will have a glass deck for pedestrians, as well as allow light vehicles to cross.

The Prime Minister will also lay the foundation stone of Child Friendly City Project, Dehradun to make the city child-friendly by making roads safe for his visit. The foundation stone of projects related to development of water supply, road and drainage system will also be laid in Dehradun at a cost of over Rs 700 crore.

He will inaugurate seven projects, including those that focus on making travel safer by tackling the problem of chronic landslides in the region. He will also inaugurate the Hydroelectric Project and Himalayan Culture Center in Dehradun.
