Relations between India and Israel have deepened over the years in several areas including defence, agriculture and water.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke to his Israeli counterpart Benjamin Netanyahu on Wednesday and the two leaders agreed on the potential to further strengthen bilateral strategic cooperation in various fields. This was the first phone conversation between Modi and Netanyahu after the Israeli leader was sworn in as prime minister for a sixth term nearly two weeks ago.

“It was a pleasure speaking with my good friend @netanyahu. Congratulated him on his impressive election victory and becoming Prime Minister for a record sixth time. Glad we will have another chance to take India-Israel strategic partnership forward together,” Modi tweeted.

It added, “The Prime Minister extended his warmest congratulations to Netanyahu on being elected Prime Minister of Israel for the sixth term and wished him a successful tenure.”

The PMO said the two leaders expressed satisfaction at the rapid progress made in the India-Israel strategic partnership in recent years.

Several sectors including defence, agriculture and water have seen growth over the years.
