New Delhi: The Punjab government has constituted a high-level committee to inquire into the security lapses of Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his visit to Ferozepur yesterday. According to sources in ABP News, the committee will submit the report to the state government in three days.

An official spokesperson said the committee would consist of Justice (Retd) Mehtab Singh Gill, Principal Secretary, Ministry of Home Affairs and Justice Anurag Verma.

Punjab CM Channi denies ‘security lapse’

Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi, however, denied that there was any security lapse or political motive behind it and said his government was open to an investigation.

Channi on Wednesday evening expressed regret after Prime Minister Narendra Modi cut short his visit to the state, but said there was no security lapse.

Sharing the minute-by-minute schedule of Modi’s visit, the CM said that three helipads were built in Firozpur as he had to reach by air from Bathinda.

He told reporters that there was a sudden change in the travel plan of the prime minister from Bathinda to Firozpur and everything was controlled by central agencies.

Emphasizing on the limited role of Punjab Police, the Chief Minister said, “It is wrong to say that there was a security lapse.”

“The prime minister was to visit for the inauguration of (development projects) and address a political rally. We regret that he had to return due to the blockade on the way,” Channi told reporters.
