Petrol, Diesel Price Updates: Know How Much You Will Have to Pay for Fuel in Your City Today

Petrol and diesel prices across the country remained unchanged for more than a month on Thursday, January 6, 2022. Public Sector Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) have left auto fuel prices untouched for some time now. Earlier on November 3, 2021, the central government had cut excise duty on petrol by Rs 5 per liter and on diesel by Rs 10 to bring down the retail rates of petrol and diesel from record highs. Following in the footsteps of the central government, several states and union territories cut Value Added Tax (VAT) to provide further relief to consumers.

The Delhi government was the last in the list to reduce VAT on petrol from 30 per cent to 19.4 per cent on December 1, 2021. The amendment reduced the price on petrol by Rs 8.56 per liter to Rs 95.41 in the national capital alone. , As per the price notification by the OMCs, the price remained the same on January 6, while the diesel rate also remained unchanged at Rs 86.67 per liter in the national capital.

Petrol price in Mumbai also remained unchanged at Rs 109.98 per liter on Thursday, while diesel price remained stable at Rs 94.14 per litre. The retail price of petrol and diesel in Kolkata was Rs 104.67 and Rs 89.79 per liter respectively.

Similarly, the prices of both the major fuels remained unchanged at Rs 101.40 and Rs 91.43 per liter respectively in Tamil Nadu capital Chennai.
