Pilot’s family struggling to understand tragedy – Henry’s Club

NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) – The family of Joshua Hawley, who tragically died when his Helicopter crash at Bonnet Carré spillwayDevastated by his loss, his brother David tells Fox8.

A fellow pilot, David, says that his brother was an excellent pilot who always put safety first.

Holly, a flight instructor, was flying to New Orleans in foggy conditions when her helicopter collided with a power line and crashed into the road below.

“He talked about safety all the time. I mean Josh read a lot of NTSB reports, like those written about him…. Where you read about very capable pilots making capable planes in bad shape Flying while in the ground, or over an obstacle,” says David. “It’s hard to understand but in aviation, you know about those risks, you know what the human body does, you know the risks. Understand those risks and try to mitigate those risks. Josh did it. He knew that. So it’s really hard to classify it. Everyone I talk to, many pilots, we just don’t make sense of it.”
