Similarly, the price of diesel in Mumbai will be Rs 94.28 per liter, which is Rs 3 less than the current Rs 97.28 per litre. Petrol in Pune will cost Rs 105.88 per liter, while diesel will cost Rs 92.37 for a litre. After the implementation of the new rates, the price of one liter of petrol in Thane will come down to Rs 106.49. Diesel price will come down to Rs 94.42 per liter in Thane.

Reacting to the move, Deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis said that the decision was part of the commitment of the Shiv Sena-BJP government for the welfare of the people.

Mumbai North East MP Manoj Kotak thanked the state government for its “rapid action”. Mumbai currently has the highest petrol price in the country.

The decision was also notified by the Maharashtra Directorate General of Information and Public Relations.

Shortly after becoming CM, Shinde announced on July 4 that the state government would reduce Value Added Tax (VAT) on petrol and diesel. The decision to reduce VAT on fuel will be taken in the state cabinet, Shinde informed the Legislative Assembly while replying to a debate after winning the floor test.

Earlier in late May, under the Uddhav Thackeray regime, the Maharashtra government cut state-imposed tax on petrol and diesel by Rs 2.08 per liter and Rs 1.44 per litre.
