On Sunday, the rates of both the fuels were cut by 15 paise per liter in metro cities of India. While prices have come down marginally in the past few days, petrol and diesel prices are still at record highs.

According to the country’s largest fuel retailer Indian Oil Corporation (IOCL), the price of petrol in the national capital Delhi is Rs 101.19 and diesel is priced at Rs 88.62 per litre.

With all, price of petrol In Mumbai, it remains at Rs 107.26 per liter and diesel at Rs 96.19 per litre. In Kolkata, the previous auto fuel price was also unchanged and in the city it is priced at Rs 101.62 per liter and diesel at Rs 91.71 per litre.

A liter of petrol in Chennai costs Rs 98.96, while diesel can be bought at Rs 91.71 per litre.

Under the pricing methodology adopted by the Government Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs), the rates of both the auto fuels are to be reviewed and revised on a daily basis. The new prices have come into effect from 6 am. OMCs like Bharat Petroleum, Indian Oil and Hindustan Petroleum revise petrol and diesel rates taking into account crude oil prices and rupee-dollar exchange rates in international markets.

In global markets, crude oil prices rose on Wednesday, causing losses overnight as producers in the US Mexico region struggled to restart their operations nine days after Hurricane Ida struck.

After falling 0.7% on Tuesday, Brent crude futures rose 14 cents, or 0.2%, to $71.83 a barrel by 0204 GMT. US West Texas Intermediate (WTI) followed a similar trend, with WTI futures rising 27 cents, or 0.4%, after falling 1.4% on Tuesday due to the Labor Day holiday, bringing the final price to $68.62 a barrel. Reuters reported.
