According to the price notification by state-run oil marketing companies (OMCs), the prices of petrol and diesel in the national capital have increased by 20 and 25 paise per liter respectively. The price of petrol in Delhi is Rs 101.39 while the price of diesel is Rs 89.57 per liter, the prices remain the same on Wednesday morning as well.

In Mumbai, the retail pump petrol price remained unchanged and stood at Rs 107.47 per litre. Diesel price also remained stable and sold at Rs 97.21 per liter in the financial hub. Petrol price in Kolkata is Rs 101.87 while the retail price of diesel is Rs 92.67 per litre. At the same time, petrol is being sold at Rs 99.15 per liter and diesel at Rs 94.17 per liter in Chennai.

Meanwhile, in international markets, crude oil prices fell for the second consecutive day on Wednesday amid rising COVID-19 cases across the world, which could lead to fuel shortages in some sectors.

After falling nearly $2 and touching $80.75 on Tuesday, Brent crude was down $1.03, or 1.3 percent, at $78.06 a barrel by 0130 GMT. Whereas, US West Texas Intermediate (WTI) fell $1.02, or 1.4 percent, to $74.27 a barrel, down 0.2% in the previous session.

Petrol-Diesel prices vary across the country due to Central Excise Duty, State Government has levied VAT, freight charges. State-run OMCs such as Hindustan Petroleum, Indian Oil Corporation and Bharat Petroleum fix new prices based on a ‘dynamic fuel pricing’ mechanism.
