Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) continued to sell fuel at unchanged prices for the 46th consecutive day on Thursday, July 7.
petrol The retail price in Delhi remains at Rs 96.72 per liter, while diesel consumers in the national capital will have to pay Rs 89.62 per litre. The retail price of petrol in Mumbai is Rs 111.35 per liter, while the price of diesel in the city is Rs 97.28 per litre. In Kolkata, a liter of petrol is being sold at Rs 106.03 and diesel at Rs 92.76 per litre. Petrol consumers in Chennai will have to pay Rs 102.63 per liter while diesel consumers in Tamil Nadu capital will have to pay Rs 94.24 per litre.
Diesel and petrol prices were last revised when Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on May 21 announced a reduction of Rs 8 in petrol excise duty and Rs 6 in diesel excise duty. After this announcement, the price of petrol was reduced by Rs 8.69 per litre. Diesel price was cut by Rs 7.05 per liter in the national capital city on May 22.
Fuel prices in the country are set and revised on a daily basis by public sector OMCs like Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL), Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL), and Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL). Prices are revised on the basis of international crude oil prices and foreign exchange rates in the global market. The price of fuel also varies from state to state within the country. This is because fuel prices depend on a number of local factors that affect their price, including freight charges and local taxes (VAT).
