Talking to the media after visiting Patna’s Government Ayurvedic College and Hospital and Government Tibbi College and Hospital, Nitish said, “All government employees and people of the state will take oath on November 26 on the occasion of ‘Prohibition Day’ that they will not So we will not consume liquor and will not allow its sale in the state.”
He said that the prohibition policy is being strictly implemented in the state and the officials have been directed that no one, including government employees, should be spared for violating the prohibition.
“All law enforcement agencies have been directed to ensure proper implementation of the liquor ban across the state. Strict action will be taken against violators including government officials,” Nitish said.
The opposition RJD has been criticizing the state government, alleging that the police are harassing people in the name of prohibition by raiding wedding venues and bride’s rooms without women police.
Justifying the raids in weddings, Nitish said that the police is taking action on the basis of the complaints received. “The police had received complaints that alcohol was being served at some weddings. On receiving such information, the police takes action. Those who are not involved in this should not worry at all,” the CM said.
Patna Police has raided more than 60 hotels and wedding halls in the last few days and arrested many people for drinking and providing liquor.
Targeting the Nitish government over the raids, RJD leader and former Chief Minister Rabri Devi said that the state police is harassing people on the pretext of prohibition. He tweeted a purported video of one such raid, in which policemen can be seen entering the bride’s room without the presence of any female police personnel. The video criticized the police along with opposition parties for “insulting and harassing” innocent people.
Meanwhile, Nitish said that his government has decided to expand the services and facilities to all Ayurvedic and Tibi colleges across the state in the coming years. “We have prepared a plan for this, but it will be announced in the upcoming National Ayurveda festival to be held at Rajgir in Nalanda district,” he said.
