Two different pictures of corona infection are visible in two big cities of Maharashtra. Cases are continuously decreasing in the financial capital Mumbai, but the infection is increasing rapidly in Pune. The horror can be gauged from the fact that the positivity rate has increased to 49.9 percent here. This is more than double the state’s weekly average rate of 24 per cent. Experts have described this rate as the peak period. He has said that this is happening because of Omicron, the situation may remain like this for the coming ten days.

According to government data, a total of 84,902 people came out positive in the RT-PCR test conducted between January 17 and 24. At the same time, a total of 2.22 lakh samples were tested for RT-PCR with Rapid Antigen Test (RAT), in which 97,838 people were found positive. In this, the weekly positivity rate, which is the average of the last seven days, shows that the corona virus is spreading very fast.

Cases will start decreasing in 15 days
Dr. Sanjeev Vavre, Joint Health Director of PMC said that the corona rate in Pune city is reaching an alarming situation. Strict measures have to be taken immediately to stop this. People should be very careful and stay at home. Vavre said that we are expecting that after 10-15 days the cases will start decreasing. Similar trends have been observed in Mumbai district.

Very few patients are being admitted to the hospital
Pune Health Officer Dr. Bhagwan Pawar said that the fast spreading Omicron variant has also entered the community spread phase. While the investigation has been increased, the positivity rate is still very high. He said that we are running behind Mumbai by 10-15 days, in the coming weeks, the cases will reduce here too.

Corona cases were at the peak in Mumbai last week, while this week it has declined. Now, it is corona peak time in Pune. This will continue for the next few weeks but will see a decline later. He said, ‘People should not panic and continue to follow COVID-appropriate behaviour, and get the vaccine.’

More than 44 thousand active cases in Pune
According to the Pune Municipal Corporation, in the last 24 hours, 5,521 new cases of corona have been reported in the city and three people have died. With this, the positive cases have increased to 6 lakh 20 thousand 548. At the same time, the death toll has gone up to 9,209. It is a matter of relief that during this period 6,333 patients have also been cured. A total of 5,66,887 have been recovered so far. Total active cases in Pune are 44,452.

Around 3 lakh active cases in Maharashtra
On Wednesday, 35756 new cases of corona and 79 deaths were registered in Maharashtra. Meanwhile, 1858 new cases of corona were reported in Mumbai and 13 deaths occurred. The Health Department said that no new case of Omicron has been reported in the state. Kovid cases in the state have increased to 76,05,181, while the death toll has reached 1,42,316. So far, a total of 2,858 patients have been found infected with Omicron in the state, out of which 1,534 have been cured.

According to the Health Department, 6,328 swab samples were sent for genome sequencing, out of which only 92 did not yield results. According to the department, 39,857 patients were discharged from hospitals in the last 24 hours, taking their total to 71,60,293. In the state where the recovery rate of corona virus is 94.15 percent. Now there are 2,98,733 active cases.
