Recently, director Siddharth Anand in a video interview with the project’s production banner Yash Raj Films talked about the tireless effort put in by the Pathan team. The filmmaker revealed how the Pathan team worked intensively to present the duo in a fresh way. It is true that Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone have done many films before and luckily all of them have done well. It became a challenge to see how different they could look and our team really worked hard to present them in a new way. The fact that DP is looking different from his films and Shah Rukh is looking different from his films will automatically make their pairing look fresh, so that’s the approach we’ve taken, and it’s amazing,” he said.
During the same conversation, the director also acknowledged the fact that Pathan, which marks the return of Shah Rukh, became a huge responsibility for the makers. According to Anand, he finally realized how big the phenomenon was and how fans were eager to see Shah Rukh Khan on celluloid when the film started getting closer to its release. But the director is hopeful that the audience will like the film.
He said, “Directing Shah Rukh is a responsibility and now it has become even bigger because of the break he took and which has created immense expectations and excitement among the audience. I want to say this now at the end of the film, the release of the film.” It’s kind of exciting because we know that hopefully we’ve made a movie that they’re going to be happy with and that’s going to be fun. But he would be proud.
Talking about working with Deepika Padukone, the director felt excited to watch her grow. Looks like the makers have also worked hard to fine tune his style. “Deepika is one of those with whom I am working a lot and have worked a lot. It has been very exciting to watch her growth and her journey. Once I knew I wanted Deepika in the film, we very much tuned in to her style and I think it shows on screen that whatever we are doing is fabulous.
When it comes to John Abraham’s character, the filmmakers are all excited to introduce him as a villain in Pathan. “John is a hero, he is a mainstream hero and he is playing a mainstream villain in Pathan, so it is very exciting and it is very new. I can’t remember the last time a mainstream hero played a villain. John is totally a bad guy in this movie,” he explained.
Pathan’s plot will pit Shah Rukh’s RAW agent against a nefarious terrorist organization, Outfit X, which is unfolding a devastating plan against India. Pathan will hit the theaters on January 25.
