Pargat Singh’s emotional argument, Congress top brass’s chin: Why Sidhu decided to meet Channi

Pressure from his close aides finally worked as Navjot Singh Sindhu accepted the offer of talks Punjab After his resignation on Tuesday, Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi raised the hope of a solution to the crisis prevailing in the state Congress.

The cricketer-turned-politician once again took to Twitter on Thursday to say that he is ready to discuss the issue with Channi at 3 pm at Punjab Bhavan. On Wednesday, Channi had offered to speak to the PCC chief to resolve the matter. “The Chief Minister has invited me for talks… Will retaliate by reaching Punjab Bhawan, Chandigarh at 3:00 PM today, he is welcome for any discussion!” Sidhu tweeted

Party sources said that though Sidhu remained adamant despite appeals from his supporters, it was two factors that finally pacified him. Reliable sources said his close aide Pargat Singh had impressed him that his decision to step down had left “those who left him at the crossroads”. A member of the Sidhu camp revealed, “It was an emotional meeting between the two in which Pargat categorically told Sidhu that he cannot leave his supporting MLAs stranded.”

Simultaneously, Sidhu’s mind was also starting to get heavy that many of the top Congress leaders had not reached him. A party leader remarked, “Slowly, he had started to realize that senior leaders were trying to shape him and hence he thought it wise to accept the CM’s offer for talks.”

Sidhu had tendered his resignation on Tuesday amid the crisis in the Punjab Congress. He had claimed that he was resigning to protest the inclusion of any “tainted” politician or bureaucrat in the government. Sidhu is primarily unhappy with Rana Gurjit Singh being picked in the cabinet and Advocate General APS Deol and DGP Iqbal Preet Singh Sahota.

Though the party high command reportedly refused to intervene and left it to the state unit to resolve the impasse, statements by new ministers like Pargat Singh were a clear indication that the party had to take it upon itself to regain the lost image. needs to be resolved.

Also, it now needs to be seen whether top officials will accept Sidhu’s demand to remove the “tainted” minister and go back to certain government appointments like AG and in-charge DGP. The ceasefire formula, if any, will be the key to a solution to the crisis that threatens to irreparably damage the Congress party ahead of the state assembly elections.
