Palestinians clash with Israeli troops after a rally in May in the West Bank city of Ramallah to mark the 74th anniversary of what they called the “Naqbah,” or “disaster,” referring to their overthrow in the war on Israel’s 1948 creation Carry an injured person. 15.

The Palestinian Health Ministry said on Friday that Israeli forces shot and killed a teenager during an operation in a town near Bethlehem in the occupied West Bank. The ministry identified the slain teenager as 15-year-old Zaid Ghunaim. He said he was wounded in the neck and back by Israeli bullets and that doctors had failed to save his life. The number of Palestinian teenagers killed during Israeli military operations in the West Bank in the past month has risen to five. Israeli-Palestinian violence has intensified in recent weeks, with almost daily arrest raids in Palestinian-administered areas of the West Bank and tensions around the Jerusalem holy site sacred to both Muslims and Jews.

The official Palestinian news agency, Wafa, citing witnesses, said that Gunaim came upon soldiers in al-Khadar and tried to flee but the soldiers opened fire on him. Online videos purportedly after the shooting showed bloodstains near a white car parked in a roadway. The Israeli army, which has stepped up its campaign in the West Bank in response to a series of deadly attacks inside Israel, said soldiers opened fire on Palestinians, who threw rocks and Molotov cocktails, threatening soldiers. “Soldiers provided first aid on the spot to an injured suspect,” the military said in a statement. Palestinian Prime Minister Mohamed Shtayyeh said that Israeli forces “deliberately” shot Ghunaim with the intention of killing him.

On Sunday, Israeli ultranationalists planned to march through the main Muslim route to the old city of Jerusalem. The complex houses the Al-Aqsa Mosque, the third holiest site in Islam. The hilltop site is also the most sacred to Jews, who refer to it as Temple Mount. The march is to celebrate Israel’s capture of East Jerusalem in the 1967 Middle East war. Israel later annexed the region at a stage that is not recognized internationally. The Palestinians claim East Jerusalem as the capital of the future state.
