On a day when Pakistan’s Test opener Abid Ali competed for 9,000 first-class runs, the 34-year-old was rushed to the hospital after complaining of chest pain during a Quaid-e-Azam Trophy match.

Reports said that Abid, who plays for Central Punjab, suffered twice while batting against Khyber Pakhtunkhwa at the UBL Cricket Ground here. Returning to the dressing room, Abid remained unbeaten on 61.

The cricketer has reportedly undergone a thorough medical examination and is currently under observation. However, it is not known whether the pain was linked to any heart-related problems.

Central Punjab manager Ashraf Ali confirmed to cricket pakistan.com.pk that Abid has been taken to the hospital. Ashraf said, ‘Nothing can be said right now, the real situation will come out only after investigation.

Since his Quaid-e-Azam Trophy debut in 2007, Abid has been a consistent presence on Pakistan’s domestic circuit, scoring over 6,000 runs. He scored 231 runs while batting for Islamabad in 2017/18; He then scored an unbeaten 249 in his ODI debut a few months later. According to Geo.TV, he first represented Pakistan at the international level at the age of 31.

The prolific right-handed batsman has played 16 Tests and scored 1180 runs at an average of over 49, with his highest being 215 not out.
