The Ganjam police have arrested a ganja trader at Khajapalli in Khalikote of Ganjam district and seized 8.5 kg gold and Rs 75 lakh in cash from his house worth over Rs 4 crore.

The police has intensified the investigation and formed a team to probe the financial transactions of accused Rajinikanth Patnaik.

Acting on a tip-off, a police team arrested Patnaik when he was smuggling ganja. The police also recovered 34 kg ganja and 10 kg opium from his possession. The team will be led by Additional SP of Ganjam and Chhatrapur SDPO. Police will take the help of STF for further investigation in this regard.

Ganjam SP Brijesh Ray said, “We have gathered all the information about the incident. We have also formed a team for more scrutiny on financial transactions. We will also interrogate the son of the accused in this connection. He will be interrogated during the remand period of two days.

“Rajinikanth has been in the business of ganja for the last 40 years. Why has the police not taken action yet? Whatever it is, it is the success of Ganjam Police. Hence strict action should be taken against the accused,” said Shambunath Pani, a resident.
