Over 60 lakh people participated in ‘Swachhta Hi Seva’ campaign: Govt.

The Ministry of Jal Shakti on Saturday said that over 60 lakh people participated in the ‘Swachhta Hi Seva’ initiative under the Swachh Bharat Mission, which seeks to reinforce the concept of cleanliness as everyone’s business.

The over two-week long initiative was organized by the Ministry of Drinking Water and Sanitation (DDWS) as part of the ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’ celebrations under Phase 2 of the Swachh Bharat Mission-Gramin (SBMG).

The ‘Swachhta Hi Seva’ (SHS) campaign, which was launched on September 15, concluded on Saturday.

The ministry said that the campaign encouraged people to understand the importance of a clean environment and inculcate the practice of systematic management of solid and liquid waste in their lives.

“In SHS 2021 fortnight, over 60 lakh people participated and contributed in ‘Swachhta Shramdaan’, over 1.5 lakh ‘Shramdaan’ activities were organised, 43,000 to pass SUP (single-use plastic) ban resolution More than 783 Gram Sabhas were organized, and 783 ‘Swachhta Raths’ were flagged off in nearby districts and states across the country.

During the fortnight, the Liquid Waste Management Infrastructure (LWMI) activities also saw significant results. About 15,951 individual and 7,216 community blotting pits were constructed during this period.

The SHS campaign culminated on Saturday with the celebration of ‘Swachh Bharat Diwas’ in the states and districts.
