Organic farming is the new mantra, farmers of progressive Gujarat have already adopted it: PM Modi

India’s heavy dependence on foreign countries for fertilizers is a matter of concern, PM Narendra Modi Said at a seminar in the cooperative sector in Gandhinagar on Saturday, motivating farmers to do organic farming. He also inaugurated a Nano Urea factory in Gujarat and said that eight such factories would be set up in other parts of the country in the near future.

The PM said that the government has given a subsidy of Rs 1,60,000 crore for fertilizers in a year. He said that farmers have been given relief of Rs 2,00,000 crore.

“We are heavily dependent on other countries for fertilisers. About 25 per cent of our total requirement of urea comes from outside. For potash and phosphate, it is 100%. The prices had increased in the recent past. Now, (Ukraine) war has broken out. International markets are volatile, our dependence is high. But our government has decided that we will face the challenges, but will not let it affect the farmers. We did not allow any major fertilizer crisis in India,” he said.

Giving the example of urea, he said that the actual price of a sack of urea is Rs 3,500, but the same bag is given to the farmers for Rs 300. Over Rs 3,200 (per bag) is being borne by the government. Told.

Exhorting farmers to take up organic farming, Modi said, “Can we afford to make our farmers highly dependent on any foreign fertiliser? Shouldn’t we be looking for a solution? Governments had to face this in the past as well. But the solutions were short-lived.”

“Over the past eight years, we have worked on long-term and short-term solutions. Biofuels, green hydrogen, nano fuels, organic farming – all these are part of a sustainable solution. The farmers of Gujarat are progressive, ready to take risks. Here the farmers have started their journey towards organic farming.

Talking about the initiative to restart fertilizer factories, he said that efforts are being made in Bihar, Odisha, Jharkhand, Uttar Pradesh and Telangana.

The Prime Minister also remotely inaugurated a Nano Urea factory at Kalol. He said that with such factories, the problems of the farmers would be greatly reduced. “When a farmer goes to buy urea, what happens? Imagine that the power of a bag of urea is concentrated in a small bottle. This will reduce the transportation cost. This is a boon for small farmers. The modern plant at Kalol has a capacity to manufacture 1.5 lakh bottles. Soon eight such plants will be set up across the country. This will reduce the country’s dependence on other countries for fertilisers.
