Over 3195 Indians have been evacuated during the 8 days of Operation Kaveri

India’s Operation Kaveri in Sudan is making headlines as the country is evacuating its nationals by the hundreds from the conflict-torn African nation.

The Indian government launched the operation on 15 April after clashes broke out in Khartoum and other parts of Sudan. It immediately deployed Indian Navy ships and Air Force aircraft to evacuate Indians stranded in Sudan.

During the 8 days of Operation Kaveri, more than 3195 Indians have been evacuated, Embassy mobilized and facilitated 62 buses from different parts of Sudan to reach Port Sudan.

  • Government of India launched ‘Operation Kaveri’ to evacuate Indians stranded in Sudan after the conflict broke out on 15 April

  • Embassy of India facilitated the first evacuation of Indians in 6 buses on April 23, 2023
  • Embassy set up a center at Kamboni School to accommodate Indians and facilitate evacuation by air and sea
  • MEA team reached Port Sudan on INS Teg on 25 April to strengthen the operation
  • Presently, the Indian School in Port Sudan is being used as a facilitation center
  • Embassy of India facilitated and facilitated the movement of 62 buses from different parts of Sudan to reach Port Sudan
  • Indians have been taken to South Sudan, Egypt, Chad and Djibouti
