One Faculty Sets Over 8 Question Papers At Mu | Mangaluru News – Times of India

Mangaluru: The shortage of expert staff, coupled with poor planning and assignment of work at Mangalore University, has forced some of the faculties of the Board of Examination (BoE) to end up with a single person setting up more than eight question papers. According to MU rules, each faculty can set no more than two question papers.
According to sources familiar with the situation, a single faculty member has been assigned fewer than two question papers for the past several years in order to maintain quality and error-free question papers. However, this semester, one faculty has set more than eight question papers.
One of the senior lecturers pointed out that the cancelled BBA second semester Kannada exam paper is just one example of how the varsity prepared for the semester exam.
“When a person sets a question paper, he or she must go through previous question papers and make sure that no question is repeated. A lot of work goes into setting up question papers. One can imagine the quality of the question papers when a single person sets about seven to eight question papers in a short time. This is a gross violation of the exam rules,” the faculty said.
Another faculty said that several eligible faculties had refused to set question papers, pointing out that they would do it only after MU pays pending monetary proceeds of daily allowance and local conveyance allowance. MU has not paid the DA/LDA of several faculties who are part of the central evaluation.
PL Dharma, registrar (evaluation), Mangalore University, put the blame on the chairman of each BoE. “I have received complaints about a single faculty member setting more than eight or nine question papers. The chairman of each BoE is in charge of question paper preparation, which is then delegated to a subject expert. After it is set, we receive three sets of question papers for each subject in a sealed cover. We randomly select one of the sealed covers and send it to the press for printing. It is later sent to colleges. The evaluation department officials do not check the question paper,” he said.
On allegations of one faculty member setting multiple question papers, Dharma said he has pressed for an internal inquiry. He noted that MU is grappling with a shortage of experienced teaching staff as a majority of them have retired. So the onus is on those remaining faculties to carry out the work, he added.
Date mismatch
Candidates of the second semester of BBA (NEP) complained that the examination dates for human resource management and business environment subjects on the hall ticket and timetable conflicted.
