India wicketkeeper batter Dinesh Karthik’s one of the most remarkable knocks came in the Nidahas Trophy 2017/18 final where he scored a six on the final ball to clinch the game by four wickets against Bangladesh.
Six years ago, on this day, India wicketkeeper batter Dinesh Karthik produced one of the best match-winning knocks to help his side secure the Nidahas Trophy. One of his most remarkable knocks came in the Nidahas Trophy 2017/18 final where he scored a six on the final ball to clinch the game by four wickets.
The final saw Karthik make his way onto the cricket pitch during the run chase with India needing a special effort from him. After a brilliant spell in the 18th over of the run chase from Bangladesh’s Mustafizur Rahman, the Men in Blue required 34 runs in two overs to seal a win.
Karthik understood the assignment perfectly as he smashed 29 runs off eight balls to secure the trophy for India.
The 2017/18 Nidahas Trophy was played between three teams- India, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh. India won three out of the four group games they played in the tri-series to seal their spot in the final. Whereas, Bangladesh beat Sri Lanka on both occasions to book their place against the Men in Blue.
The final was played on March 18 at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo, Sri Lanka.
With the toss working out in India’s favour, the Rohit Sharma-led side decided to bowl first in the game. Bangladesh’s Sabbir Rahman did the majority of the heavy lifting as he smashed 77 runs in 50 balls to help his side put up a total of 166 on the board.
Yuzvendra Chahal had the best showing in the bowling department for India as he scalped three wickets in four overs while giving away a mere 18 runs.
In the second half, India suffered quite a few early shocks as Shikhar Dhawan and Suresh Raina were both dismissed by the fourth over.
Rohit Sharma played a captain’s knock as he put up 56 runs on the board for India. KL Rahul and Manish Pandey were up next and added 24 and 28 runs.
Bangladesh pacer Mustafizur Rahman put a stop to this momentum by producing what seemed like the over of the tournament. He conceded just one run while dismissing Pandey to leave the Indians in a dire situation.
India needed five runs off the last ball of regulation, which Dinesh Karthik attained off his finishing six facing Soumya Sarkar.
