He said that the people of Punjab should consider this as a gift of Diwali. In the future, people will get more gifts.

Tension on Akali Dal’s performance
CM Channi said that the opposition parties knew that the rates of petrol and diesel could be reduced in Punjab. Hence Akali Dal demonstrated in Chandigarh. Channi said that even when he was in the opposition, we used to issue statements when there was a big issue.

900 crore loss to Punjab annually due to reduction in excise
Finance Minister Manpreet Badal said that Punjab has 42% share in excise. Punjab will suffer a loss of 900 crores annually due to the decision of the central government. He demanded on behalf of the Punjab government that the government should reduce the duty. He said that the Center should not just reduce the excise duty.

Income from other taxes only to the central government
He said that excise duty has not increased in the last 6 years. Additional excise, special excise, surcharge and cess have been increased. They do not need to give revenue to the state government. The Modi government has confiscated the states’ share of about 6 lakh crores in the last 6 years. He asked the question of how many people live under the centre.

We have more responsibilities, Center should reduce other taxes
The state government has huge responsibilities. We have to give health, education, police settlement, jail, electricity, canal, old age pension along with public good. When the Center takes money from the states, it is taken directly from the people. He said that not only excise but also other taxes should be reduced on petroleum.
