Odisha: Woman cricketer Rajashree Swain found dead in forest

Police said that the case of unnatural death will also go on.

Odisha woman cricketer Rajshree Swain was found dead in a dense forest near Cuttack city on Friday. Swain was missing since January 11 and his body was found hanging from a tree in Gurudijhatia forest of Athagarh area. His coach lodged a missing complaint at Mangalabagh police station in Cuttack on Thursday.

Police said a case of unnatural death would also be registered. The police are yet to ascertain the cause of his death. However, his family alleged that he was murdered.

The scooter was found lying abandoned near the forest and his mobile phone was switched off. The police also said that the matter will be investigated from every angle. Around 25 women cricketers, including Swain, were part of a training camp organized by Odisha Cricket Association (OCA) in Bajrakabati area for the upcoming national level cricket tournament to be held in Puducherry.

The Odisha state women’s cricket team was announced on 10 January, but Swain could not make it to the final list. Police said the next day the player went to the cricket ground in Tangi area for practice but Rajshree told her coach that she was going to Puri to meet her father.
