Odisha Woman Cricketer Found Dead in Forest Near Cuttack

Odisha woman cricketer Rajshree Swain was found dead in a dense forest near Cuttack city on Friday. Police gave this information.

She was missing since January 11.

Cuttack’s Deputy Commissioner of Police Pinak Mishra said the body was found hanging from a tree in Gurdijhatia forest in Athagarh area.

His coach lodged a missing complaint at Mangalabagh police station in Cuttack on Thursday.

A case of unnatural death will be registered at Gurdijatiya police station. They said.

The police are yet to ascertain the cause of his death. However, her family alleged that she was murdered “because there were bruises on her body and her eyes were disfigured”.

His scooter was found abandoned near the forest and his mobile phone was switched off.

Police say that the matter will be investigated from every angle.

Her family members said around 25 women cricketers, including Swain, were part of a training camp organized by Odisha Cricket Association (OCA) in Bajarkabati Region for the upcoming National Level Cricket Tournament to be held in Puducherry. All of them were staying in a hotel in the locality.

The Odisha state women’s cricket team was announced on 10 January, but Swain could not make it to the final list.

Police said the next day the player went to the cricket ground in Tangi area for practice but Rajshree told her coach that she was going to Puri to meet her father.
