Koraput/Bahrampur: More than 600 people from three villages of Potangi block of Koraput district have threatened to boycott the three-tier panchayat elections in protest against the lack of all-weather roads in their villages.
Residents of Podlaguda, Nuaguda and Dumuriguda alleged that in the absence of proper road, they face a lot of trouble in going to the block headquarters for various works. “Our village is located at a distance of about 8 km from the block headquarter and no four wheeler can go to our village due to lack of road. We have to face lot of difficulties in our transportation. agricultural products Arjun Pangi, a resident of Dumuriguda, alleged that going to urban markets and shifting a patient is a nightmare as the ambulance cannot reach the village.
According to villagersThe road built a few years back is completely damaged and their repeated pleas for a new road are not being heeded.
A resident of Nuaguda said, “Very hardly a four wheeler can go till Podalguda, about 3 kms from Potangi, but not till our village. In every election we are assured of road construction, but till now it has not happened. Has not happened.” , That’s why this time we have decided to boycott the panchayat elections.
Villagers of Adisipada panchayat of Khajuripada block of Kandhamal district have decided to boycott next month’s three-tier panchayat elections as their area lacks mobile connectivity.
Not a single nomination paper has been filed for sarpanch, committee member and ward member posts in the last three days due to the villagers’ call of “No Network No Vote”. Villagers also staged a sit-in in front of the Panchayat office under the banner of Adisipada Aware Citizen Forum and requested the interested candidates not to enroll. The panchayat has 13 wards with over 3,500 people.
“The government officials of Khajuripada block tried to convince the villagers on Wednesday. A three-member official team reached the village to talk to them. Since the model code of conduct is in place, we cannot give any assurance to the villagers about them. Demands, But can convince them,” said Rabindra Nath Kanhar, Block Development Officer (BDO) Khajuripara.
