India’s Rajvardhan Hangargekar made a splash in the ongoing ICC Under-19 World Cup 2022 by showing his prowess with both the ball and the bat. The Maharashtra cricketer is a right-arm fast bowler and a lower middle-order batsman who can cross boundaries with ease. South Africa’s top-order were in trouble when India began their campaign, but Hangergecker’s brilliance with the willow drew attention in India’s second outing against Ireland on Wednesday.

Coming to bat at No. 5, the lucky batsman hit five big sixes to end the Indian innings on a grand note. In the 49th over, Hangargekar hit left-arm spinner Nathan McGuire for two sixes and then took a hat-trick of sixes off right-arm medium pacer Muzamil Sherzad to help India post a massive total of 307 for five. After batting first. Hangargekar remained unbeaten on 39 off 17 balls at a strike rate of 229.41.

India have reached the Super League quarter-finals of the Under-19 World Cup after beating Ireland by a margin of 174 runs. Wednesday’s win is also special as the team fielded a poor team for the game after six team members were forced into isolation after testing positive for Covid-19.
Captain Yash Dhul and vice-captain SK Rashid were among those who contracted the virus and thus missed the competition. According to the BCCI, apart from Dhul and Rashid, Manav Parekh, Siddharth Yadav, Aaradhya Yadav and Vasu Vats are also in isolation.
